The Street Department is a division of the Public Works Department, and maintains and makes new installations on City properties, including 47 miles of streets, street signs, sidewalks, City owned buildings, parks and walking trails.
It also assists in events organized by the City or by private organizations, such as the Liberty Square Celebration, Bluegrass concerts, Cruise-Ins and others.
The Street Department ensures that the citizens of Sparta will have safe transportation routes, and a city that is attractive to both citizens and visitors. It is also responsible for the compliance with MUTCD, ADA and other regulations regarding transportation and buildings.
